Murray
Claire
has worked with clay since her early twenties - as both a student and
during her career as a teacher. She now devotes her time to the development
of her own work and teaching in schools as a clay artist.
Claire
was selected to become a Professional Member of the Craft Potters' Association
in 2002. She is also a member of West Country Potters and North Devon
Arts.
Claire
is a figurative ceramicist and her current work is based around the complexities
of human communication.
All
pieces are hand modelled and built from a mixture of slabs, coils and
'pinching' techniques of clay modelling. The work is finished using a
variety of oxides, underglaze colours plus a shiny transparent glaze.
The final firing temperature is to 1100°C. Some pieces are sited on
burnt oak bases fixed into place with a metal rod and resin glue. Claire's
work is constantly evolving.
