Fire
and earth are the two main constituents in Anthea Eames' striking abstract
paintings. She makes her own paints from ochres, clays, rocks
and other natural materials capable of being ground into powder. Her
powerful and tactile works are made by blending the pigment with acrylic
resins and by burning and carving patterns into wood. The earthy quality
of her richly textured wooden panels extends to their subject matter
including rocky landscapes, rolling hills, desert plains, gnarled trees
and ancient places which have a particular and personal resonance for
her. A long period spent living and working in Africa and visits
to other parts of the world including Australia, continue to influence
her work in both colour and design.
Anthea trained at the Norwich School of Art and Design where she graduated
in 1989 with a BA Hons in Graphic Design.
She also has a teaching qualification from Reading University and works
as a freelance artist and tutor from her studio in Norwich.
Originals or prints can be purchased directly from the artist and she
also works to commission.
